Are college more lenient to children of divorced parents?

My parents divorced when I was little. I have pretty much no relationship with my biological father. My mother, who I live with, remarried a couple years ago.

On the application, it asks my parents' marital status. I want to put down Married because my mother is remarried and I feel as if I'm "disgracing" the family if i do not. However, at the same time, I don't particularly believe that statement is true. Are colleges more lenient to children of divorced parents?

Your mom is married and you have to include that. Your household includes you, your mom, your stepdad, and any siblings. the entire household income and assets get considered if you’re asking for aid.

Some schools will ALSO ask for your dad’s financial info.

What do you mean by “lenient”? Will you be accepted because your parents divorced? no.

I would suggest answering the question this way … My biological parents are divorced and my Mom has remarried.

Most forms are asking for your parents so I would say they’re divorced. There might be another place where you can put that your mother remarried.

Your parents being divorced is not a reason for colleges to be more “lenient”. That just doesn’t make a lot of sense.
