Are Cornell interviews the same as all the other Ivies?

I've already had alumni interviews with Columbia, Yale, and Harvard, and my general impression was that the interviews don't mean ANYTHING, in the sense that they can't really help you, but they can definitely hurt you if you're unable to hold a sane conversation. Does this hold true for Cornell alumni interviews as well?

cornell alumni interviews? i gathered from the cornell website ([Cornell University Undergraduate Admissions Office - RESOURCES](http://admissions.cornell.edu/resources/faq_answer.cfm?num=24)) that interviews are not offered anywhere except the College of Architecture, Arts, and Planning, School of Hotel Admin, and the School of Industrial and Labor Relations due to volume of applicants. so unless you are applying to one of those schools (which seems unlikely given that you’re also applying to harvard, yale, and columbia), you won’t have to worry about this.

No I was offered an alumni interview yesterday over e-mail. It’ll take place right here in my city, which is thousands of miles away from the college of Arts :D. I’m applying to CAS btw.

Oh wait so you’re saying that interviews are only offered if you’re applying to those schools? I thought you meant that they will only take place on-campus lol sorry for the misunderstanding.

hmmm…i’m intrigued then, given that i’m applying CAS too and live about 2 hours away from ithaca…haven’t been contacted yet. i imagine that faq at the cornell website must have been talking about on-campus interviews then?

Yeah it even says that “most students who apply for freshman admission will be contacted by a member of a local Cornell alumni committee in the fall or winter.”

I thought CAS applicants don’t get interviews. https://admissions.cornell.edu/forms/FreshmanRequirementsChart.pdf</a>
“Interviews are not offered.”

I applied to CAS, too.

CAS applicants do get interviews as long as there is someone in the area and available, but the interviews basically count for nothing so don’t get worked up over it or give it too much thought. it really makes no difference as the admission officer said during the information session. its more an opportunity for you to get more information. even though the interviewers do note the interview, according to the info session, it never “makes a big difference unless you do something nutty”

Thanks Icey, finally someone who actually answered my question lol

Here we go again…

The only required interviews are for Hotel and Architecture.

Alumni in your area who are members of the Cornell Alumni Admissions Ambassador Network (CAAAN) may contact your for an information session (it’s not an interview). It’s a meeting to have your questions answered and for the alumnus to speak to you about Cornell. Yes, the alum will file a report. As opposed to what’s been said earlier, this meeting can help, but since not everyone will get the chance to have this meeting, it’s not going to be held against you if you don’t.

That being said, don’t read anything into it if you don’t get called for a meeting. There may not be enough alumni in the area to meet with everyone (the alumnus never sees your application) or alumni may just get too busy. It’s not reflection on your chances of admittance. Most of these meetings will take place in January through mid-February.

^ohh, okay. Thanks for the information. That was very helpful!

My D was never contacted for an “alumni informational meeting” but was acccepted ED.

So people from CALS can be asked for an interview?

Yes, anyone who is applying could be interviewed by alumni.

There is a good chance you will be contacted by an alumni. From what I hear it is pretty similar to the interviews that other schools have
