Are Dual Degree applicants compared with single degree applicants?

i.e. are applicants to the M&T program compared with applicants to SEAS and Wharton, or are they only compared with each other? I ask because in my school, I’m one of few who is EDing to a single college in Penn, as opposed to the majority who are applying to coordinated dual degree programs. Thanks for your help!

Applicants to the M&T program must be accepted by both Wharton and SEAS separately before they go under evaluation by the M&T committee. Huntsman applications on the other hand are first evaluated by the Huntsman committee, and if not accepted, move on to the second choice school for further evaluation. So yes for M&T (applicants are compared), potentially for Huntsman. Not too familiar with the other dual degree programs

@asianfu thanks for the answer. so if I was applying to Wharton, and others were applying to M&T, they’d be considered as my “competition,” so to speak? I ask because I know that Penn doesn’t like to accept too many students from one school.

Most likely, since both applications will be evaluated by Wharton. However, you never know what goes on in the admissions office, and how much emphasis they put on selecting individuals from different schools. If you applied ED, no need to worry any more as you did the best you can do with factors in control.

@asianfu yeah, thanks man. I guess I’ll know in a week
