Can essays help someone with a 3.5 GPA Weighted and great extra currics and a 2100 SAT get into UCSD? Do they make up for them a little bit?

a response would be nice?

yeah..nice attitude..

They do help, how much I can't say. What I heard was, if you are a borderline acceptance or rejection, they read your essays. Your best bet is to go to the school rep visits and ask them in person. It probably varies from school to school, maybe from year to year. I would write good ones either way.

I know of a girl who had something like a 5.0 weighted GPA, remarkably high SAT, perfect 5's on AP, but got rejected from almost every school because she sounded arrogant in her essays.

Hope that gives you an idea.

You want to communicate that you are a serious applicant in your essays, and not applying just because your friends are or because your parents advised you too. Just make sure you write genuine and serious responses and carefully think out your responses. I'm not sure how formulaic SDs approach is and how much they value the essay, but definitely put effort into it if it's your first choice college. I think if your stats are in the right place (they look good; your GPA could be higher, though if you are taking honors or APs they give you points for that in your UC GPA). But if you work on your essay to express your personality and what makes you unique intelligently, then yes, it will help.
