Are essays that contain your intellectual passion better than a memoir?

<p>I have an essay that's pretty much about my relationship with my dad, and how it has affected me, but not in the "academic" sense. I just talk about how I perceive things and the world now as a result. </p>

<p>That topic is fine. Your intellectual abilities will come through in other parts of the app (as well as in your writing). The essay is to show them things that they otherwise wouldn't know about you.</p>
