i'm an admitted student and i'm in cambridge this weekend with some friends-can we just go to an mit frat party/are there any open ones on saturday night?

Despite being a fraternity brother, let me tell you with all sincerity: unless you're friends with a current MIT student who's in a fraternity and will escort you throughout the evening, don't bother. Don't get me wrong, I love MIT's Greek life, and the fraternities throw plenty of great parties throughout the year...but even a fraternity that is having an open party would not welcome the risk of having high-schoolers at their party - and it's probably not worth it for you, either. Anyway, I actually don't even know of any open parties going on this weekend.

I hope I don't come across as too harsh, but I feel kind of strongly about this. If you're interested in seeing an actual fraternity house, visiting a dorm, and/or meeting some MIT students besides the tour guides, just drop me a PM and I'll be more than happy to set you up.

ask-paul has the right idea.

If you go to CPW, there are plenty of frat parties that weekend that are aimed at making sure the prefrosh have fun.

i stayed overnight with a senior and i attended a frat party. dunno if thats the same thing, but it was fun

Oh, if you're actually staying overnight at a fraternity, by all means avail yourselves of whatever parties are available - the fraternity brothers know what to expect in that case.

Same goes with CPW, which is a great time to explore not only the different dorms but also Greek life at MIT. As Jessie said, the parties really are a lot of fun. I definitely wish I had explored the dorms and fraternities more during CPW, but fortunately it all turned out okay in the end. :)
