Are Freshmen required to live on campus?

If not, I'm going to live in the nearby Mazza Grandmarc apartments by Campus Apartments. Apparently, because one of the people who heads the College Bound group that I'm in is neighbors with the CEO of Campus Apartments, I will get to live in any Campus Apartments anywhere in the US for free for the time I'm in college! So do freshmen have to live on campus at UMD?

No, you’re not required to live on campus. Sweet deal, though it may take you a bit longer to meet people to hang out with.

^^That’s my only concern. If I do go to UMD and live in the Mazza Grandmarc, I’m just going to try to put myself out there a little harder

IF you get involved in on-campus activities/clubs you’ll get to know people with similar interests. You can also make an effort to meet people in your classes for study groups, etc. It just will take a bit longer than the immediacy of living on a freshman dorm floor (which, of course has its drawbacks…)
