I have always been unwilling to wear clothing that is hard to wrangle when using the bathroom. Jumpsuits fall in that category for me, even though that is a lovely and dramatic statement piece. Comfort is important to me and ease of wearing and being able to use the bathroom at will.
I don’t see many men wearing anything these days where they have to contort to use the bathroom. That’s a pretty basic need for most humans. Designers need to keep that in mind.
The biggest fashion designers that put out the wilder designs want to break boundaries and probably don’t think as much about things like that. And they’re many times men. And some celebrities seem to be willing to wear just about anything for fashion and to get attention. Most designs for the more average woman luckily seem more comfortable. And it seems pretty easy to ignore styles that just aren’t your style or wouldn’t work for you . There are things i see that I would never buy or wear , either because of style or price, so I just move on .
You’re right, which is why it’s exciting that there are women designers on the scene and hopefully they will be able to marry style with function (helpful pockets in strategic locations that are large enough to be useful without creating an unflattering profile, clothes that are comfy while moving well, etc).
I love jumpsuits and have several, but I agree, the bathroom issue is a challenge. I make sure not to wear them if I’m going somewhere where I will be drinking a lot
I have several jumpsuits, but I picked them strategically so they would be easy to deal with when nature calls. They are casual with the exception of one beaded DVF jumpsuit that I absolutely love. Absolutely agree that designers don’t always consider things practical. Those clothes are meant to be wearable art. Who takes art into a bathroom?
I don’t wear them currently. However, my 33 year old daughter is very into them and has a whole bunch and wears them frequently.
Well, my nephew’s 4 year old daughter is very into them, and manages the bathroom just fine. I loved wearing them when I was a slender teen and young adult - they looked so sexy, without baring too much skin. Now? Nope. Not because of bathroom issues, but because of post-menopausal weight gain. In my opinion, jumpsuits do not look good on heavy women. I just wouldn’t feel comfortable in one now.
No, just no.
My D tried on a jumpsuit the other day for a wedding. Surprisingly, we both thought it looked great, but the bathroom issue was a deal breaker. For the record I don’t like rompers either.
Some of the fashions today are just awful- the baby doll dress look- no. For giggles we walked through Saks- there wasn’t anything she would try on. She just kept saying how ugly all the clothes were.
Neither I nor D own any jumpsuits nor rompers (except possibly as infants/toddlers). Can’t ever remember owning any. We are both slim and always have been. The thing that is attractive to me about them is they don’t have tops that come untucked but that’s not enough to hassle with bathroom wrangling.
These have made a big comeback in France starting about 3 years ago. If you have seen Fleabag, you would have seen the gorgeous blue jumpsuit the main character wore to a family dinner ….beautiful.
But I am not tall or that thin, and then there arethe bathroom issue, so I don’t buy into this fashion.
Oh, turns out it was black, and there was another reason why I wouldn’t wear it
I wore a red, open-back jumpsuit to a very formal event a few years ago - it was kind of fun not to have a fancy dress but still feel dressed up. It was something like this:
Jumpsuits have been popular for a few years now. I love the look. In fact I wore a black, sleeveless jumpsuit to my HS reunion and H’s college reunion in 2019. It was both a classic and modern look.
Yes, a bit of a hassle in the bathroom but not a dealbreaker for me.
(I felt way cooler wearing that than I ususally do LOL)
I bought a boiler suit a couple of years ago. Yeah, a little more trouble going to the bathroom. But a whole lot easier to style than the rest of my closet. One and done! And it’s comfortable. And it gets lots of compliments too.
I really love Kay Unger jumpsuits. A lot of them have a train- best of both worlds. Never tried one on, so no idea how I would look in one.
I like the Kay Unger styles too! I’ve been tempted but have never ordered.
My daughter loves them. She’s a junior in college now and I remember rompers coming back in style when she was in high school. She’s really long waisted though so finding some that fit without riding up and showing her bottom was tough. We finally found a popular brand that sold talls online and she was thrilled. She has a red jumpsuit she loves but again, it’s hard to find some that fit the length of her body.
I was about to say the same thing. I was a teen when they were in style before but I sewed most of my own clothes and added to the waist length to make them fit. My younger D has the same problem, but doesn’t care enough about them to search out tall sizes. Older D has a couple that look fantastic on her, enough that she puts up with the hassle.
