Are Likely Letters good signs?

I was wondering if Likely Letters might be good omens for other college admission offers. I was deferred by MIT and UChicago but accepted early to Caltech. I also just received likely letters to Brown and Columbia, so I’m starting to feel very conflicted. Am I unfortunately deemed more of a fit to certain schools?

you’re the same kid that asked "In short, the most important question is, “Do ALL admissions officers read an applicants’ entire application” ?

Can you post the text of your likely letter?

Congratulations. It means that those specific schools liked your application which issued you a likely while your app was not ready for a decision by those who deferred you.

If Caltech, Columbia and Brown have admitted you, you have done reasonably well with the admissions. So what are you conflicted about? Are you expecting every school to admit you or else you don’t feel successful?

Really? You are worried or complaining when those are your choices?

Aren’t you bound to Caltech, then?
This is sort of suspicious, you received likely letters from Ivy Leagues but didn’t know that admissions at such a selective level is unpredictable…
I’d assume that someone with stats like those should have invested a great deal of time researching colleges.

Caltech is early action so it is non-binding.

Likely letters mean those particular schools felt that you fit the profile for them, but does not necessarily mean that other schools will like your profile as much to admit you. It could be that your essays to those 3 were particularly compelling etc,

You only have one month left (less than 3 weeks for MIT), so only time will tell.

As of now, you should be extremely relaxed and grateful that you were admitted to 3 extremely good schools. Congratulations!

likely letters mean you will be accepted, so use the additional time you have been blessed with to figure out where you REALLY want to go.
Visit the colleges, especially if you have not already done so, ask LOTS of questions and be SURE you are visiting when classes are actually in session or kids are on campus.
Spring break happens at different times for different colleges.
Congrats and get going!

Caltech, Columbia and Brown are EXTREMELY different colleges- Caltech is small, really intense and STEM focused[ drinking from a firehose kind of intense ], Columbia has the Core, which means there are classes that ALL students have to take aside from those required for their major, and at Brown you only have to take the classes required by your major, so there is lots of time to sample a wide variety of classes.
Cant think of 3 colleges that are more different in style and focus.

“Am I unfortunately deemed more of a fit to certain schools?” Yes

How this is “unfortunate” is in the eye of the beholder. You have in hand 3 admits to some of the most selective colleges in the world. Now you’re ruminating about others? Talk about first world problems.

Shake off this curiosity or even worse, pity party. Go celebrate. Use some of that Caltech smarts and utilize your time/energy more wisely.

Congrats, BTW

Are your honestly trying to get sympathy because you got into Caltech and were deferred by MIT? because you have a likely letter from Brown and were deferred by UChicago? Instead of asking for sympathy I suggest you take a moment to appreciate the many wonderful opportunities/choices you will have.

It seems that people are not satisfied unless they get accepted to every school on their list; and if something like that happens, then they bemoan how difficult a decision they have to make. The grass is always green, at least for some.
