take major classes of chem, bio. Pretty sure u won't c a single middle aged lunatic.

No respect for your elders...

We're all going to get old someday and have weird habits. Have a heart people, jeez.

but i sure as hell wont be at college.

and that lady is CHEAP.

There are some terribly obnoxious middle aged people at my CC. However, there are also some terribly obnoxious twenty-somethings as well, although I would say that more often than not the one who tries to have a two-way conversation with the professor the entire class is usually middle aged. Even so, the percentage of annoying middle aged people is relatively slim; there are some really cool 30-50 year olds that I have met through CC, even one who has become like a mother to the whole honors program.
Then again, there is also a very large 40ish woman who sits in front of me in Western Civ and likes to infer strange things from innocuous things the professor says. She is tiresome.
So it's a mixed bag.

OK now that you have all put down these middle aged people (who may not have had an earlier opportunity to receive an education or maybe they were just too stupid to get into a good college), why are YOU guys in CC??????????????? Ouch

I can just imagine what these old tired folks must be postings about you guys.

not just old people, but those who constantly interrupt the teacher while he/she is teaching in order to get a better explanation. If you don't understand from lecture, there's always the book and office hours. You shouldn't be getting all your information from lectures anyways (for science classes). It's not your personal classroom. There are 30+ other kids who just want to hear the lecture without interruption.

Egelloca, we're not bashing them for being for being old and going to CC. We have our reasons to got to CC like everyone else here, and many of us College Confidential students are very serious and concerned about our education so that we can GET into a good college.

I don't see anyone saying that old people shouldn't be at a CC. All I see here is people complaining about the few who are so full of themselves that they are annoying and disruptive to our educational experiences. And I personally have little respect for people who waste time to the point that my own professors get irritated.

I don't have any problem with old poeple going back to school, but I have to say something. They are always telling stories about their lives, husbands, kids, and all the crap... I don't like that. Why don't they find support groups instead?

Some are really cool though.

I took classes at a CC for a semester, and I must say some of them really got to me. They think they know everything, but usually half the time they speak up in class it's usually something stupid or pointless. Like, whenever the professor asks a rhetorical question they're always the ones that feel the need to answer it. It's actually any student that makes it their point to be the "smart" one of the class, but I've noticed that it tends to be the middle aged people. They answer all the questions the professor asks and I always want to laugh when he/she asks one and they dont answer. And I know I'll get flamed for this, but if they're so smart, why are they still in college taking intro courses?

When I took o-chem lab(This class is separate from the ecture),there was a middle aged guy who graduated from UCB. I remembered that guy needed this class to apply for grad school. Many people asked him how to this how to do that during the lab.

And I met 2 middle-aged women in an intro bio class. They worked in a same lab and their boss told them to take all the bio courses in cc in order to refresh their knowledge on this field. They r quite cool and not annoying.

The middle aged people are always the "head nodders" in the front row at my school. The two middle aged women in my english class actually get angry when my teacher talks about the morbid aspects of the books we're reading. He likes to focus on things like the dark side of the american dream, greed and loneliness and all these women want to talk about is superficial stuff like romance. It drives me nuts. I have nothing against going back to school at middle age. I have a lot against getting older and becoming delusional in order to cope with your own compromised dreams.

So, hello. Wretched middle age cc student here.
I am so offended by this thread that I can't even see straight. I am a thirty-five year old mother of 3 who is in school for the first time in 15 years. I am going to cc yes, and then I am going to transfer to a good four year and then go on to grad school. I have been visiting this board to get information about what colelge boards look for, but suddenly I feel terribly unwelcome here in this little vat of higher education.
Let's see:
Yes, we talk about our kids and family. What the hell are we supposed to talk about? Do you talk about things going on in your lives? Should you join a support group to talk about being going to parties and having boyfriends or girlfriends?
And wth is it supposed to mean that you won't find "us" in chem and bio classes? The majority of older people I have run into are going to get into nursing. They need to take science classes for that. I am currently sporting a 4.0, and that includes classes such as Logic and Chemistry. My sister, at the age of 40, graduated Magna cum laude with a degree in mathematics from CalPoly-SLO.
You know, if you need to btch about some annoying ** in your class, feel free to, but please don't lump us all together. I have a very annoying neighbor who is deaf. Would it be fair to start a thread about how annoying deaf people are? No, he is one person who is annoying who happens to be deaf.
I thought one of the reasons for higher education was to expand your mind and learn about different cultures. I guess some people won't ever get that.
Oh, and the whole "They are so annoying because they sit in the front with the tape recorder and actually do their assignment"? Given how many people on this board are striving for Ivy League, I am guessing there are quite a few teens and twenty-somethings doing the same thing. So, why is it only annoying when we old folks actually want to do well in school. We are taking time out of our very busy days, paying for it ourselves, as well as paying for the housing and living expenses of our families, damn straight we are going to be quite invested in doing well.

Aero- Can you take some grammar classes in cc? May help some.

I wouldn't say that that's evidence of getting older, but a sign of their generation's ideals.

I don't think anyone was making generalizations about ALL middle aged college students, captiv8ed. It's unfortunate that you're offended, but we have a right to post our experiences and so do you. I don't think anyone on this board really cares how old anyone else is. We're all here for the same reason. I've been offended by MANY posts on this board, but who cares? Everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. You should start the thread "annoying CC 20 somethings"

that's true janel89

squarepeg (that is actually my username on another board, you are the first one I have run into besides myself)
Here was the first post:
Are middle-aged people at your CC annoying?
damn can't stand these guys...seriously, I don't care about your life or your stupid experiences.....

How is that not a generalization azbout ALL middle aged cc students?
Of course everyone has a right to his or her opinion, and has a right to express it. I am just saddened and dismayed to read such harsh generalizations from students who should have their critical thinking skills honed by now.

If they're so smart, how come they're 45 and still in college? Shouldnt they have finished 20 years ago?
