<p>Yeah, I was thinking about the trade school thing myself when I wrote the post.... I just didn't go off on that tangent. </p>
<p>There is absolutely no shame in learning a trade right out of highschool and getting to work. Besides, most people with a bachelors are hardly educated except in the art of getting drunk (engineers and majors in the hard sciences are exceptions).</p>
<p>Define "challenging school." Even at the Ivies, you will always hear stories from engineers who are shocked at how so many students struggle in liberal arts courses, while the engineer found it to be trivial.</p>
<p>I don't think you can expect much in the way of critical thinking from someone with a b.a. from any of the ivies (as a rule... of course there are some great thinkers at these schools!). You can usually expect verbal fluency and good communication skills, but that's about it. Of course there are still a few schools, like Reed, Swarthmore, and UChicago, were a b.a. still means something.</p>
