Are minors worth anything?

Hey everyone! I'm a freshman and am realizing that I have LOTS of space in my schedule because I completed most of my core requirements through AP or through enrichment courses at other colleges. I have one more course for a history minor and then those requirements are completed. So I'm a civil engineering major with minors in history and math, and I'm thinking I will try for legal studies or economics as well. Is it worth going for all these minors? Its seems like a waste and my parents are encouraging me to continue with civil engineering and just be a part time student my senior year(because I'd only have a senior project and maybe one or two courses versus a full course load)... just in my major I'm a full semester ahead and almost a year ahead.

So...the question is: Are minors worth it?

Just take whatever you'd like that comes in your way! DOn't worry about the requirements too much :)

Are you genuinely interested in all the subjects? Will your grades in your primary subject - CivE - suffer? If yes and then no, it may be worth it. On the other hand, if you feel that you may not be able to devote as much time to your engineering classes, it won't really be worth it.

:)

Perhaps look into a second major or simply just take a bunch of electives. Tons of options here. Could even go study abroad or do an internship one semester.

And I am going to add a smiley to the end of my post since everyone else has (for whatever reason that may be):

:)

I'm sad :) haha jk

:)

:)

(i just want to feel accepted...)

I'm taking a minor in Political Science... But the main reaosn is that most of the classes I don't take for my major are going to be Poli Sci, so I might as well get something to show for my work.

If you're interested enough the subjects, perhaps it might be good. Either way, you sound like you're fine. What do you want to get out of the situation?

-knowledge

If that's the case, one can acquire A LOT by reading on one's own time. Then again, one can benefit greatly from formal instruction/required reading, paperwork, ect.
