Hey guys,

I'm currently a freshmen at Penn State and I was talking with my counselor and this question came up: is it truly worth getting a minor?

I plan on majoring in Media Studies with a focus in Film/TV, and I know that the degree itself isn't strong so I'd figure I'd pair it with a minor. But how helpful is that minor really? Am I better off double majoring?

I'm looking at the Rhetoric minor because I really like the art of persuasion through words and communication. I was originally planning on double majoring in English and Media Studies, but I decided to stick with the latter since it's what I love most.

My counselor said that it's possible to land a job through internships so I'm already writing a cover letter and contacting media-based companies to gain experience, but she said to always have grad school backed up, which means I'm going to have to keep my grades up high. So far, I know Berkeley has a Film and Media Studies grad program and Brown has a Visual Culture program; these are programs my counselor and I said.

As far as my career decision goes, I know I want to work in the field of media. I love this major so I know it's something I will forever stick with; i'm so sure of it. So, is it really worth getting a minor? Or a double major in my case? My other option is Economics.
