I’m checking out some interesting 9am classes at Brown but I heard that morning classes are a bad idea 1st semester in college. I’m having a pretty hard time waking up at 7am for school right now so I’m not sure if it would be a great idea to be taking classes that would require me to wake up at 8am.

When my daughter was trying to narrow down classes to take freshman year, we suggested eliminating all 9 am classes. She thanked us later. I know she took some when she was an upperclassman, and was fine. But first semester freshman year is tough.

I’ve taken a 9am class just about every semester at Brown, and did just fine. It really depends on whether you’re a night owl or not - I just made sure to get to bed by 1am the nights before, and had no problem. Especially if you’re in the sciences, it’s basically impossible to avoid 9am classes.

Thanks! I’m just trying not to be overambitious my first semester. There is a lot that I want to do but I know that first and foremost are my classes.
