I am currently enrolled at Santa Monica College as an Accounting major. I'm in my 2nd year. I was thinking of applying to USC Marshall to get into Leventhal Accounting this year just to see if I get lucky and get accepted even though I was mainly planning on staying an extra 3rd year at SMC to have all my prereqs and GE classes finished. I currently have a 3.76 (33 units) transferable GPA, 14 units non transferable and enrolled in the Scholars Program, have been on the Dean's Honor List 3 straight semesters and have a letter or Recommendation from my Accounting professor. Full time student every year taking winter and summer sessions with a Sunday job as well. I've taken Accounting 1 and English 2 and have completed GE categories II, Diversity and Language requirement. I will be taking the needed Acc 2 during Spring and also completing Category V during spring as well. As for math I will be taking Pre calculus in Spring(Yes I know I need business calc). Do you think I would have a chance applying this semester or just wait until next year and apply since I would have all USC Ge's completed and prereqs completed. Also would it hurt my chances if I applied this year and say got rejected and then applied again next year?

Hello! USC Spring transfer admit student here from Cal State University, Fullerton. I’ve talked to the regional admissions manager of USC in my area quite a bit so I know the jist of what they look at in transfer applicants.

When I got my admittance into Marshall, I completed 75% of the GEs (Needed 1 lab, diversity, and Eng req.) My GPA was a 3.62 and my SAT score from high school was a 2020. I didn’t have very many extracurricular besides a few volunteer and job positions.

Overall, I think you should be fine, though it should be noted that Marshall students do not have a foreign language requirement. I also have heard that USC accepts a large amount of transfer students, especially for a school of its caliber. Take that for what it is, but an admittance to USC is an admittance. As long as you can keep up with its classes I think you should be fine.

I think you should apply because it won’t hurt you if nothing else. If you do get rejected but show an improvement from now till your second application, then you are in good standing to enter. Basically what it boils down to is your GPA, extracurriculars don’t factor in as much as they did in high school, though they will be looking at your high school GPA too. My high school GPA wasn’t anything to brag about but because I showed continued improvement over my first year at which I acknowledge as my source for admission.

Best of luck to you!

Thank you very much! I decided to just wait and apply next year when i have everything completed!
