Hi there. Freshman here who is hoping to get into a good school. Currently maintaining 4.0 (might have a 3.9 soon because of difficulties in Geometry, but I figure that I can make up for this later on with AP courses,) but I’m wondering if my EC’s are sounding good. I am making an effort to do what I enjoy, and explore as much as I can before my later years of high school. Here is what I currently have:
Track Team (This is my first ever sport, and I have found myself enjoying it enough to want to go out for Cross Country next year alongside other sports. At my school, doing 3 sports before graduation means that you do not have to take more than one year of PE throughout your high school career)
Black Student Union (I will run for a position next year, as I work hard in this club)
UC Berkeley’s Engineering Program (Runs from Feb.-April on Saturdays, only lasts this year, will most likely replace it with another STEM program next year)
Book Club (though we only meet once a month and I do not intend on gaining a position)
Girls Inc of the Island City (Summer program, will have an internship through it in a few years)
As surprising as it may sound, this is actually enough to keep me busy so far. Next year, I intend on joining Robotics Club and as mentioned, doing another STEM program.

ECs are not measured on quantity. Example - being in a club that meets once a month, with no leadership, won’t have a significant impact. But if you enjoy, absolutely keep doing it - life isn’t just resume building.
As you’ve said, you are exploring what interests you. By next year, you should decide where to focus and invest efforts. Taking a leadership role and making significant impacts is typically what will be attractive on an application.
As long as you can demonstrate great interest and devotion in your extracurriculars, I believe this will suffice.
