What I have done:

110+ Hours of volunteering at library
Clarinet Choir
Orchestra
Marching Band
Model UN

Mostly a music-ish EC. I'm not like other CC'ers with thousands of EC's. Just a small amount I plan on doing.

If you are going to focus on music ec’s make sure to be the best

No they are unfocused. You should quit them all and start over…

But seriously, do what you enjoy, not what you think will look good.

With music, are there any regional orchestras you can try out for/get involved in? that will show more dedication and talent.

Orchestra and Marching Band is regional.

Marching band is an All-City marching band ranging through the whole city. Orchestra is ranging through my whole borough.

I don’t really like anything… As in I would rather just hang out with friends rather then do this. But, if I did have to do it, I would go with music, debate, or anything that has to do with going to a college to research.

It’s not focused, I know, but seriously, I think alot of you guys are brainwashed by CC’ers. But I rather get constructive criticism rather then just ignore what I don’t want to hear.

When I said regional orchestras, I meant youth orchestras, for example, that hold competitive auditions and require hours of practice to get in. If you get involved in those, that shows dedication and talent. Unless your Orchestra has prestige or has competitive auditions, I wouldn’t say it shows dedication or talent, it’s just an activity.

I think the whole “focus” necessity is overrated on CC. It’s just that colleges would rather see one accomplish in what one does and that tends to be difficult if the person is doing a million different things. If you think you can flourish in debate and win some events, by all means, go for it.

Does this count?

Marching Band: Requires EXTREME amount of work. I have to memorize about 6 songs that are level 5-6 music (hardest music on the music rosters). Our all city marching band ranges through all the 5 boroughs of NY and requires an audition to enter (our group is about 40 students). We march for **Bloomberg/b, other **famous people/b, and etc when the Board of Education requires us. Our marching band IS the official one for the city, it’s not just one of the many marching band groups. Our went to Hawaii, Florida, and other states ** per request ** by other famous figures to march.

Orchestra: My orchestra is called “Brooklyn Youth Symphony Orchestra” where we go to rehearsals and play music soon after all the rehearsals to an audience after we perfect it. It’s on a tuition basis as well, which I got full finan-aid for it. Takes hours to practice as well, but not as hard as Marching Band. BYSO is pretty competitive, about 100 in total from the borough of Brooklyn which is divided into two groups.

I hope you guys realize, I WILL soon add more EC’s like researching at a University or something hopefully over the summer and stuff. I’m still a sophomore, and my school only gives opportunities like that for juniors and etc.
