Are my ECs good enough??

best violinist in school, part of a local orchestra, part of 2 chamber orchestras, Literary Magazine, Scholastic Bowl, World Youth Science/Engineering Team, went to state level for science fair freshman year, also on jv swim team freshman year, part of NHS, volunteer at local hospital (60+ hrs right now, will probably reach 100+ by the time I submit my apps), currently tutoring a 6 yr old for the violin as well, might start shadowing neurosurgeon

I'm planning to apply to Northwestern, UChicago, Johns Hopkins, and maybe a few Ivies like Princeton, Columbia, and Brown

Provided you have not spent your time sitting on the couch during high school, there is no such thing as a weak EC or a “not good enough” EC – everything you do tells a story about what you care about.

That said, college’s on your list don’t recruit by EC’s, they look for strength of “character” – that’s an old fashioned word, it means the way you develop your inner qualities: intellectual passion, maturity, social conscience, concern for community, tolerance, inclusiveness and love of learning. Admissions learns about those things from your essays and teacher recs. A student could have phenomenal EC’s but might be rejected due to lack of character. FWIW: I don’t see a safety school on your list.
