Are my future plans stupid? CUNY->NYU

Hello,
I'm fairly new here-made this account 5 minutes ago. So, my plan at the moment is to go to an inexpensive college and then try to transfer to NYU in their CAS school to pursue a career in pediatrics (a pre-med track). It's just so many people have been telling me how stupid of an idea it is to want to transfer. I'm 80% sure I won't get admitted into NYU because of my grades:
Unweighted GPA: 3.8
Weighted: 96.19
SAT: 1840- Reading: 610, Math: 570, Writing: 660
Combined: 1180
ACT: 28
I volunteer at Stony Brook University Hospital and am committed to completing 100 hours there and I'm in a few clubs as well.
I'm a first generation Afghan-American and...yeah.

Now, would trying to transfer after two years look better if I were to improve my grades throughout college or would it be just the same as I applied now?

& what if I end up going to a inexpensive school that doesn't have as many good programs than the ones I would've been accepted to, try to transfer to NYU and end up getting rejected? Where would I go from there? Is this all a stupid idea? Please help me, I'm confused. Thank you! :)

Thats not a stupid idea but you always have a chance. Your GPA is good  SAT can be a little higher but theres always a chance!

Stony is actually a really good program too for the sciences!

But yeah, it might be harder to transfer too.

I know somebody who got into NYU with a 1740… NYU has like a 32% acceptance rate I think.

Apply to NYU, with confidence, and see what happens. It’s nothing like an Ivy League…
Then if you don’t get in, try that.
But first have confidence that you’ll get in.
