I just got my junior year grades back and I'm kind of worried. I go to a competitive public high school and my grades this year were as follows:
AP Economics-91
AP Language and Composition-96
Spanish 11 Honors-90
AP US History-95
AP Biology-91 : (
Pre-Calc Honors-91 : (
Principles of Marketing-97
Gym/Wind Ensemble-93/96
-I'm not going to make any excuses, because I know my own time-management issues hurt my grades in some classes, but I'm really worried that these grades aren't good enough for Ivy leage/Top 15 schools. I do know that these schools are reaches for even the best applicants, but I'm worried that I hurt my chances a lot w/ my grades. Are my grades still competitive enough for these top colleges?

It will be your overall unweighted GPA, as well as rank which will be looked at. Also your SAT/ACT will be a large factor. Just keep working hard.

Yes. It’s B.

Just to clarify my unweighted GPA for fresh/soph year is a 95.0, though it might drop to a 94.4 after this year’s grades.
SAT-wise my January score was: CR/M/W: 700/770/750
-I retook the SAT in June, and I’m waiting for scores

GPA is meaningless without what it means at your school. It’s all about where you are in your class whether or not your school officially ranks.

My school does not rank, because kids who didn’t take any aps ended up becoming valedictorians just because they easily got high GPAs. Also my school does not weight GPA’s or do any sort of grade inflation.

I think you are in decent shape. If your CR goes up on your recent SAT, that will help. An unweighted 94.4 is still in good A range, so your ECS, recs, and essays will help determine your fate for top schools.

As an above poster noted, your grades in relationship to your classmates will be looked at. Even if there is no official rank, the college will ask your GC to give ranges of your schools students so they can determine a percentile rank.
