Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’d rather get laughed at here than at the admissions office. My D wants to speak with some music profs at schools she’s considering and I’m wondering if visiting during the summer would prevent us from doing so.
If your D wants to meet with music profs, she should reach out to them directly to schedule, not thru admissions. I would expect fewer profs are around consistently during the summer, but with enough planning your D should be able to get some meetings.
Short answer - it depends. Even if not teaching, they may be doing research on campus. More likely, though, is that they are not on campus.
Yes, she will definitely go directly to the prof for this request. Great to know it might be a possibity. I also wasn’t sure if it was considered rude to infringe on their “time off.”
Mine did. We took her for a visit mid-summer because we all wanted to visit to get the lay of the land before dropping her off a month later. (We live outside the US so accepted student visits were not practical). She contacted the orchestra director to meet him and also requested an early audition because she was having her wisdom teeth removed about two weeks before school started and she was afraid she would still not be allowed to play during the regular audition period. She also contacted and met with a club sport coach.
Great! Thanks! We will be in the Midwest this summer and it would be a real shame for her not to meet some faculty while we are there.
My son reached out to music professors even during summer visits. If they are on campus they will likely be happy to meet with her. My son had sample lessons at several schools including Duke over the summer. If the professor is not available you can try the band or orchestra director if that’s relevant to her.
