Are sat prep classes worth it?

I’m and I got a 1300 on the PSAT and want to improve my score. I was wondering if a class would be worth it or if studying by myself would be fine. If anyone has suggestions for classes or books that’d be great too.

Don’t worry about improving PSAT, but depending on what college you want to go to classes might be worth it. I would suggest (if you can afford it) doing one or two practice tests and then taking it ASAP, and if your score does not get you on the average of your dream school, take classes.

Plenty of kids do fine studying on their own. A class will give you structure and maybe a little more motivation. They will also help you pinpoint areas where you need the most work (although an online tool can do the same.) Then again, you’ll spend time on things you’ve mastered because someone else in the class hasn’t.

It all depends on your self-motivation, schedule, learning style, etc.

Some prep classes, sometimes, for some people.

agree with @marvin100 It depends on the class. My kid took a prep class, she said it helped. Motivation is important.

Completely depends on you, your motivation, and how you best study. I’d suggest some initial prep classes are always good because they might help teach you how to better study for the SAT on your own and some approaches to take to different sections of the SAT. Otherwise, studying on your own can be better for you depending on what works best for you. Other than the more basic stuff to set you on the right path with prep classes, there only real usefulness is to help you keep working on iimproving when your not motivated to improve by yourself. I did most of my improvements on the SAT just studying by myself, not when I was seeing a tutor for it, mostly because of the motivation factor and me being a better self-studier.

It all depends on what you think will work best for you, they are certainly not a necessity for getting a great SAT score.

@marvin100 100% spot on!
