Are SAT scores averaged after the third time?

Does college board average the SAT scores after they are taken after a third time? Does a college do this if the SAT is taken after a third time?

What if the scores are canceled, does this count as taking the test once or does it not show up at all?

Thanks

dawns,

College Board doesn’t average your scores at any point. All they will do is report the scores you choose, unformatted. They’ll report your SAT scores by the test date you choose and Subject test scores by the individual tests you choose, but other than that they don’t alter your scores in any way.

As far as what the universities do with your scores, they all have different policies. Some may take an average, some may take your highest score, etc. You may have to speak with your high school guidance counselor or someone at the univeristies you want to apply to, to see what their policies are.

But you don’t have to worry about CB averaging or otherwise altering your scores. :)

If you cancel your scores, it’s okay. It doesn’t get reported to any universities, and you don’t get a zero. :)

Text on the web page: Important notes:
Score Choice cannot be used with score reports ordered by mail.
You cannot send separate scores for critical reading, mathematics, or writing sections.
**Only score reports from completed and scored tests will be sent to the colleges and scholarship programs you select. Scores from future tests for which you registered, but have not yet completed, will not be included. Check your My SAT to see which scores are available to send. **Your scores are maintained on active file for one year after your high school graduation, or for one school year following your test date if you tested after high school. Please see Archived Scores for more information if you last tested before October 2002.
Go to Question & Answer Service or the Student Answer Service to learn more about ordering these services by mail.

Hope this helps you out.  :D

Thank you for the thorough response. Although score choice can be used, there are some Universities that want all scores sent to them and I was wondering if the canceled score is even mentioned at all if the All Scores option is chosen. So the university will not see that a score was canceled nor count it as 1 being taken?

Sorry about the doubt, I just really want to be sure and am nervous about it.
Once again, thanks.

A canceled score will appear as if you never signed up or took the exam. So the university will not see it.

dawns,

If you choose to send all of your scores, CB will only send results from completed and scored tests, including SAT and Subject tests.

Let’s say, for example, that you’ve taken the SAT in October, Subject tests in November, and you missed the March test. If you choose to send all of your scores, the only thing CB will send are you scores from October and November. They won’t bother to include that you had initially registered for March, but didn’t go; nor would they include that the March scores were cancelled, had you decided to cancel them if you did go.

So if you wanna send all of your scores, CB will only send scores from test dates that you appear for.

*Sorry about the doubt, I just really want to be sure and am nervous about it.
Once again, thanks. *

Hey, no worries. I totally understand. :)

And, you’re welcome! Anytime. :D
