Are SAT Subject Tests worth it?

Hi all. First off I'm a current sophomore/rising junior and I really want to take about two (mayybe three) SAT IIs. Biology and math. Im not sure which level of math because of my twisted math history, but that's a whole different scenario. I think I messed up not taking the biology test this year since I just took the course (and aced it, woot woot!) because, honestly, I've never heard of them, much less which ones were available.

Anywho. . .

So I brought up SAT IIs to my friend and he basically gave me the impression that they're not worth it, almost like I'm wasting my time and energy just considering them. BUT I'm looking to get in the Honors program at my top choice (Hokie-land :p [VA Tech for non-Virginians]) So would taking these tests be worth the brushing up I'd have to do now? I plan on taking the Biology ASAP next year so I won't lose too much.

Take SAT IIs, even though they’re not required, if you wanna get into a top program, they’ll definitely be an asset.

SATIIs are totally worth it. Even if you don’t think you’ll need them for college admissions, they’re a good idea to take in case you decide to apply to a school that require them.

It’s a shame, most students don’t hear about them until far too late in my opinion.

On the math thing, I’d definitely try to take Math II unless you’re sure you can get a perfect score on Math I because apparently the curve is really steep. Plus, some colleges won’t take math I.
