Are SAT tutors from the school as good as more expensive ones?

My mom gave me an SAT tutoring budget of $800. My mom wants me to use two different tutors, one for the English sections and one for the math section, who charge $100 an hour. I want to see if my public school will refer me to any tutors (hopefully teachers) that charge fewer than $50 an hour, but my mom says that they aren't as good. I don't need tutoring desperately, but I definitely want it.

Current practice test score range (rising junior, for reference)

M: Range from 740-780
CR: 740-800
W: 650-730 (weakest section by far)

I need the math tutor to strengthen my geometry skills and give me other insights.

I need an English tutor for the writing section (I know that the errors usually fall under one of many error categories but the concepts never "click" with me when I read them online/on a book).

Thanks :)

Those are pretty decent score ranges my friend… Just practice on your own; you don’t need anyone to practice for yourself

Thats a bit expensive…honestly most tutors aren’t even that good. Why do you need a tutor…you already have a close to perfect score.

agree, only use tutoring if you can’t find the time to review on your own - and use the SAT prep forum on cc, especially silver turtle, for recommendations on review books for writing and geometry sections, and get the official SAT blue book and work the problems.

You will be more efficient on your own.

Once your scores are that high, all you need is practice. It’s a good thing that your weakest section is writing, because that is the easiest section to improve on.
