Are they an absolute must when applying as an Int'l to the US or give you the upperhand etc...?
I mean, I know everyone on CC is always posting their SAT I and SAT II scores but other unis I looked into (mainly the UK but still...) could read overseas qualifications just fine.
From Aus, btw.

Thanks in advance!

Yes ,the either the SAT or the ACT is absolutely ''must-take'' and the SATs II are only required by top colleges.
Ofcourse there are some community colleges that require only TOEFL ,and some public colleges require only green cart but i don`t recommend you ;}

Every single college and university in the USA that requires a standardized test for admissions accepts scores from the ACT and the SAT for that purpose. If you need to take an exam, you can choose either of these and you will be just fine.

For a list of "exam optional" colleges and universities in the US, visit The National Center for Fair & Open Testing | FairTest

For the specific requirements of any given college or university, you will have to visit their website. Some will require the ACT/SAT. Some will require a writing sample which means that you can choose between the SAT and the ACT with writing. Some will require a certain number of SAT subject exams (SAT II). Some will accept ACT scores instead of SAT subject exam scores because the ACT is a more subject-based exam. It's a bit of a drag, but you will have to do the research once institution at a time.

Most students at CC post their SAT I and SAT II scores because those are metrics that they use to compare themselves with each other. Whether or not those metrics are truly useful to any given admissions committee is a whole other thing. What you need to be concerned with are the specific requirements of the specific colleges and universities that you want to apply to. The rest of it you can just ignore.

Wishing you all the best.
