My freshman and sophomore years in high school weren't the best... i had an average GPA of about 3.4. My junior year my grades went up and my average GPA is around a 3.6. I was wondering if senior year grades are more important than the other years of high school..

I'm planning to get a 4.0 (hopefully) my first semester of senior year, but would it increase my chances of getting into a good college?

When I went to visit BU (Boston University), the admissions counselor there said that senior year grades are the most important to them. Is this the same for most colleges?

Yes and no depending on when you are applying, ED/EA or RD. Senior grades and rigor are important because it will continue to support your high school performance. Schools want to see that you will be able to handle college level courses when you matriculate, so more indication you could give them better chance your will have.

My nephew didn’t take any AP courses from 9-11th grade because he transferred to the new high school 10th grade and he was in the wrong track. Senior year he took 3 APs and he aced all of them. Even though he had fewer APs than most kids applying to top tier schools, he demonstrated to adcoms that he was a competitive student and would most likely be able to handle college level courses.

In my younger kid’s case, she had close to 4.0 UW GPA up to junior year. Her senior grades were just gravy. She just needed to make sure she maintained her grades and rigor of her courses.

I would suggest for you not to apply ED or EA to allow you to have one more semester of upward trend to show to adcoms.

Yea, I’m planning on applying regular decision to all my colleges.

Also, the GPAs I listed above were unweighted.
The AP classes I’ve taken are:
AP US History (in a program similar to IB as well) - 10th Grade
AP European History - 11th Grade
AP English Language and Composition - 11th Grade

Now I’m taking:
AP English Literature and Composition - 12th Grade
AP Statistics - 12th Grade
AP Psychology - 12th Grade
AP Latin: Vergil (in a program similar to IB as well) - 12th Grade
