So I’m feeling pretty silly, I was unaware that there was max amount of units for applying to UCLA, the website/FAQ says that to be junior standing you must be between 60 and 86 semester units (I have a semester system college).
Does this mean if you have over 86 units they will not consider you for admission?
I have a little over 86 units, mostly from taking extra classes for personal creative pursuits (poetry, creative writing, etc.) and also to fulfill the honors program at my school (honors anthro, honors art, etc.). I have a great grant which allowed me to take classes with no cost to myself and I really enjoy learning new subjects, I hope this hasn’t backfired on me though?
Does this mean my application will automatically be rejected? I would like to reiterate that I am not trying to transfer as a senior, it is fine with me if they don’t accept all my credits. I just want to know if this disqualifies me from admission.
No, not disqualified. If accepted, you would be awarded a max of 70 semester units (105 quarter in the case of UCLA) from the CC and you would lose whatever is in excess.
I take back what I wrote in #2. Apparently the policy for senior standing transfers and if they get admitted varies from UC to UC. UCLA is one that doesn’t let in high unit senior standing. You’d have to check to see if all of those units you accumulated are UC-transferable or not. I’ll defer to others.
The 70 semester / 105 quarter unit limit for lower division non-UC transfer credit applies both for actual transfer credit and for counting toward maximum units. If all of your credit is from community colleges, it will be limited by this cap, so you will not be in danger of being a high unit junior or senior who may be disqualified or deprioritized in transfer admission.
You will get subject credit for all courses taken, even though you will only get 70 semester / 105 quarter units.
@ucbalumnus I think the OP was referring to this type of documentation below. I originally thought the same thing what you wrote , and I know Berkeley transfers who have come in with 90 semester units, but not sure about UCLA specifically anymore.
The very first sentence of the document linked in #5 is “Students will be granted up to 70 semester/105 quarter units of credit for lower division coursework completed at any institution or combination of institutions.”
As long as they are lower division (CCC are all lower division), you can have as many as you want, but only 70 units will transfer. You’ll get subject credit for the rest.
