Wondering if it makes sense to take the Orgo1 &11 classes in the summer at the end of Freshman year? One of the big cons - overall cost seems to work out to about 10K including summer dorms. Any pros and cons from people who did this in the past would be very helpful. Are there any financial aid/ resources that folks got in the past? Thanks for any suggestions...

If you’re planning on going to med school then no I wouldn’t advise it. I have read that the med schools want you to take your sciences during the school year so they can see if you can handle the rigors you would experience in med school science classes. They prefer you to do research/volunteer.

However, you can get rid of some other classes such as humanities. I assumed your pre-med because you said you wanted to take Orgo.

Two of my roommates are pre-med and both took Orgo over the summer. One took it at Wash U and another took it at a school in Chicago. They’re both going to get into med school just fine.

Thanks, you 're right, the WashU on-line pre-health handbook clearly states that Orgo and Bio are offered during summers to help with fulfilling requirements.
I guess my question was more about whether it’s a good idea to do it my very first summer after freshman year at WashU. Plus, how hard is it to juggle a summer job(if I can find one close to campus) to help pay for part of the expenses and take Orgo plus labwork? Any suggestions from current WashU upperclassmen that did this in the past would be greatly appreciated.

My roommate said he had class for a few hours every morning, plus lab on Tuesdays and Thursdays for a few hours in the afternoon, and spent a decent amount of time studying during the weekend. So take that as you will.

If you take orgo during the summer, expect to spend most of your time doing orgo. I have had friends who have taken other classes (such as psych) and been able to sustain a job, but orgo is basically a full time thing.

I did physics 117 the summer before I started and it worked really well,
