Are the Colleges I am Looking at Too Prestigious?

I am a junior in high school (I still have plenty of time to college search). My high school is known for being the "most rigorous" high school of the district, and consequently, I have been given the most challenging teachers and courses. I also have a tendency to look at colleges just out of my reach as it seems.

I have a 3.43 GPA, and 7 classes which are all IB.
I am president of 2 clubs, involved in 5 clubs, have over 100 volunteer hours, no sports in high school but I ride horses outside of school.
I have only taken the PSAT so far but with no practice I got a 1600/2400 (I know, nothing to fawn over -- still have hours of practice ahead of me).
Financially, I would be considered middle-class.

I have been recently college searching, and found a few that have caught my eye, but none have had my attention indulged more than Georgetown University.

Tips about colleges, admissions into them, and opinions if I would to be able to attend Georgetown or not would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Ask your parents how much money they will pay for college.

I have 3 1/2 years paid for in whichever college I choose to go to, I am just not sure if the ones I am looking at are within my “league.”

honestly, I think georgetown would be a real stretch for you. most admitted students have unweighted GPAs at or above a 3.7 with equally rigorous courses and the majority have SAT scores above 2100. most admitted students also have some sort of hook that makes them stand out. of the 9 people that I know that I applied, only myself and another were accepted even though all applicants had very strong course loads, 3.6+ unweighted GPAs, 2000+ SATs and strong EC involvement. consider american! it might be more of a match for you admissions wise.

^^ I agree. Try American or George Washington… they like ib kids… lots of ib kids from my school applied there with similar stats as you and got accepted

I also agree with unodosytracy. Georgetown would be a bit of a stretch… You really should try American or George Washington instead based on your stats and the fact that you do IB.

I would greatly appreciate it if you replied to my thread, which I’ve included a link for below.
