I have some costs that I need to take care of in order to attend college that my school will not approve for me under my COA. If I don’t get these private costs taken care of I cannot attend college. Are there any loans still out there that don’t require the amount to be certified by the school? Thanks
Sure. Got to your local bank or credit union. If you are the student, take a qualified cosigner with you.
I’ve been looking, but every credit union goes through Sallie Mae, who requires certification.
How much are you talking about- an extra $500 which a loving Aunt might let you put on her credit card to buy you a bus ticket and a duffle bag, or $3500 for plane tickets, books, lab fees, car insurance, pay off a credit card for a vacation you took last year?
You can’t get a student loan above the COA. What you would need to look for is a personal loan. I’d suggest a credit union.
What are you talking about? If you have a qualified cosigner, you can get a bank loan without any college certification. It would be a private personal loan.
Many banks no longer make unsecured (even with a cosigner) personal loans. You have to check what products they are offering.
