I’m currently a community college student in Michigan with 55 credits. I want to transfer to a top 30 ranked school and major in Management Information Systems. Are there any colleges with good MIS programs that would accept me?
CC GPA: 3.73
Hooks: First gen college student, half-URM
Location: Ann Arbor, MI
ECs: Constructed a database using MySQL, created a mobile app for a charity, Kiwanis member, summer internship in data analytics
At first I looked into Mich State and uMich, but they told me they didn’t have undergraduate MIS programs. So now I’m looking into going OOS, but only at a top 50 ranked school; anything lower than that wouldn’t be worth it IMO and I’d be better off just staying in-state.
What colleges with good MIS programs do I have decent chances of gaining acceptance to?
Could you major in Computer Science and do some MIS electives, possible at the B-School? Are you living in Ann Arbor (attend local CC)? Wouldn’t U of M be a logical choice?
@Jamrock411 Yep, I live in Ann Arbor and attend the local CC here (Washtenaw). UMich would have been the perfect choice for me, but it doesn’t have an undergraduate MIS major – or Accounting and Finance, which are also my interests – so I can’t go there. CS seems interesting, but it’s too math/science-heavy for me (which are my biggest weaknesses), and I’m not very talented at programming in the object-oriented languages. I’m curious why you recommend CS over MIS?
You can always design your own degree at UM. I’d try for Ross and take some CS courses. Talk to a guidance counselor. UM reserves about 300 spots a year for CC transfer.
