I'm in the top 10% of my senior class, got a 3.89 u/w GPA, took lots of honors and AP classes, won tons of academic awards, and had a buttload of EC's. I got accepted to UF"s fall 2009 class. I also got into FSU and UCF, both of which offered merit-based stipends.

However,

I am not a National Merit Scholar, and my family is not considered financially needy, so I am not eligible for financial aid. Most of the scholarships I found on UF"s site are for NMS students, or financially needy ones.

I've got a full-ride Bright Futures scholarship which covers tuition, but I'm trying to find more scholarships for room and board.

Are there any scholarships given by UF that I would be eligible for, similar to the $1200/semester stipend given by FSU and the $2500/yr scholarship given by UCF?

We’re in the same boat (D also turned down UCF money), and no, I don’t think so. D will probably get a corporate NM scholarship, at least we hope so … she made the cutoff for consideration but they haven’t released the info, yet. We know there’s the Lombardi … but she’s not interested in that, even if her school were to nominate her, because of all that’s required of you if you get it. I’ve also gone through the UF website, including those from different departments, but most go to students already enrolled or have a financial need test which we won’t meet, even though the whole two kids in college thing is killing us. (relatively speaking)

I don’t know if anything’s offered through the honors program or not. We got additional money through UCF that way, but we’re still waiting til 4/10 just to find out if she made the program at UF.
