Are there any NJ schools that arent suitcase schools!!

Title pretty much says it all.. Im talking about schools besides Rutgers (my first choice ,but not sure Ill get in). Cheaper schools near northern NJ (within 2 or 3 hours drive) possibly NY or Pennsylvania would also interest me.

My stats...
3.18 Community college
2.98 High school
1710 SATs

Thanks everyone

That is a good question.
The students that my kids know who stayed in NJ do come home a lot on weekends.

My nephew is at TCNJ and the kids really do go home a lot on the weekends. However, there are still plenty of kids on campus and lots of parties, etc.

david, a college admission counselor at one our NJ state public Us. explained to me that all NJ public schools are "suitcase schools". It was further explained that this even true of Rutgers-NB, but not as noticable because of its large size. It was further explained that the reason is bc NJ is a small state, so one can get home within 2 hours even if one attended a southern NJ public, but came from northern NJ and vice versa.

IMO, if you want to stay in this area, and are looking for cheaper schools, but do not want to limit yourself to instate public NJ schools (some do not guarantee housing for all 4 years btw), look at some SUNY schools. Unfortunately, NJ residents do not get instate tuition at SUNYs even though NY residents who attended certain NY CCs get instate tuition at some of our instate schools!!!! I discovered that little insider secret on one of our tours! Yes, it is frustrating, but some SUNYs might still be affordable. If you can afford the pricetag, look into some PA publics (Penn State-not the main campus).

An inexpensive small private looking for male students in NY is Wells College.

Thank you, very helpful post.... I am generally looking for a little bit of a larger school, but I will defiantly check out all possibilities. I want to transfer this spring if possible so I really need to get going... What about schools within say 5 or so hours? any suggestions there, please consider my medicore statistics.

I know it sounds juvenile ,but in addition to a college education I really am looking for the whole sterotypical college experience the parties the dorm life the whole 9 yards.

Try Penn State Altoona, they have buses that take students to University Park (about 1/2 hour away) for all the home football games!

Have you looked into Temple or East Stroudsburg U?

david, it does not sound juvenile to want school spirit. I think that you will find that at Rutgers. I am sorry, I did not read your initial post carefully enough to realize that you will transfer from a CC. Can their advisors help you? You want to make sure that the credits you have taken will satisfy some gen ed requirements! I would first look for advice from them and see what articulation agreements your CC has with other schools. Hopefully that will save time, and money. You don't want to lose the credits you have earned. Most private schools do not have great packages for transfer students, but there are some that are better than others. Again, use the resources at your CC.

East Stroudgsburg looks to be a possibility, and Temple I checked out, Im just a little concerned about being in the middle of a city. Thank you everyone you guys are very helpful! I will defiantly talk to a counseler ASAP hopefully tomorrow. Any other suggestions are welcomed.

I don't know if this is an interest of yours but, I would suggest to expand your search to New York. I think that you will find better schools with less students going home on the weekends.

New York is fine. Do you have any suggestions?
