OP, have you considered Kalamazoo College? It is test optional. They have engineering in a 3/2 program if you go that route. Use their Net Price Calculator (NPC) to see if it is affordable for your family - you may be pleasantly surprised.
I think a small, liberal arts college with lots of faculty contact would be a more supportive environment for you.
