My daughter, who is from New York City, feels right at home in Cambridge. In fact, she refers to Cambridge as “quaint” as it actually has a much slower pace than NYC. You get used to the hustle and bustle of crowds and you tune them out on your way to class.

According to my daughter, it mostly blends into the background. The school does a good job of keeping outsiders out of classrooms, dining halls, libraries, etc. She said you are in a fishbowl somewhat your freshman year when you live in the Yard, but past that, since the tourists don’t go out to the upperclassman Houses, the crowds are really only a hassle if your route across campus must take you past John Harvard’s statue or some other major tour magnet.

She said definitely don’t let the crowds keep you from applying to or attending Harvard if you get the chance. The minor annoyance of the crowds is more than offset by the rest of the Harvard experience.
