Are these Alg 2 chapters important?

@MITer94‌ I’m taking IB Math HL 1 next year which is the recommended course after Alg 2 Honors. I took Alg 2 H in 9th grade but I’m taking AP Stat this year because we aren’t allowed to go further to Pre-Calc if we take Alg 2 freshman year because the other math students have to catch up (idiotic rule). The problem is that Alg 2 H was a complete joke (learned very little) in its material and IB Math HL 1 is incredibly difficult (2 As per year for about 70 students) and is pretty much a very difficult version Pre-Calc.

What do you recommend doing (any books) to review Alg 2 Honors in depth and maybe get ahead? I’m planning on getting Barron’s Math Level 2 to study Pre-Calc and to go over Alg 2 with Khan Academy along with many practice questions.

@Anish14‌ yeah, that seems appropriate, since logarithms (for practical purposes) are usually done in base 2, or 10, or e. Some applications might be presented, e.g. exponential growth/decay or binary search (which takes log time). Many fundamental properties of logarithms are better explained in a calculus course though.

@apandia I’m not familiar with the IB curriculum (I only took my HS’s pre-calc and AP Calc AB, BC). However I doubt Barrons Math II is the best idea for learning pre-calc since the intent is to prepare you for the SAT II exam (I never used it though). Khan Academy might be good; if you’re looking for a good challenge you can also try AoPS precalculus.
