I have heard that you can only put 10 things on our common application. These are the 10 things I’m thinking of listing next year. Are these Extracurriculars good? What else can I do? What should I not include, what should I do?
Student Council - Secretary
Relay for Life (Volunteering Hours) - Treasurer, Vice- President, President (next year)
Model Congress - 2 Gavels (awards)
Business Club - Competitions: Wharton Investment Challenge (x2), Diamond Challenge
Recreation Tennis - Sport
Columbia University Credit Course
Vahan Check Internship- Business World Connection
National Economic Challenge - 2nd Place in State of New Jersey
Kids are Scientists Too - Secretary of New Jersey Chapter
National Honors Society
You can use the additional info section if you have more than 10. Both my kids did. So don’t worry about the count.
In that regard, I have done well in Model United Nations (multiple awards), Debate League (multiple awards), Red Cross (might become an officer next year), 100 hours from a doctors officer, 120 hours of unpaid work experience, 70ish hours of voluntary from library and tutoring.
***Do the things I’ve listed above have merit?
Also, @intparent what would you rate my ecs? Like what can I do to improve them? and what would be my number one extra curricular?
@Blazchkowski123 , your strongest EC would depend on your major!
I want to major in Economics and Political Science. I want to end up studying MBA-Management or Finance. In that regard, what would be strongest EC? Also, @theChinaman what else can I do to help me get into college for the aforementioned major(s)?
I don’t know which one is strongest because I’m not into business finance econ, but the Columbia course you took would go under “college courses” which is in another section of the common app. So that frees up a spot for you to list something else.
