Are these rumours true?

Applying as a math/physical science/engineering major will give me an upper hand as compared to applying as a humanities/biological science major?

There are quotas within each major at all the top colleges, and the major that I choose will impact my decision (yeah it’s sorta related to the first question)

When has a rumor ever not been true?

I have to agree with yawn.

If you are a gal as your username implies, then yes, you will be favored more as a math/engineering major. However, in general, majors declared on college apps are taken with a grain of salt since so many students change majors once in college.

I don't think that your declared major will affect your admissions in terms of quotas, but I think that the admission committees will look at your application to see if it supports your proposed major. For example, if you express an interest in hard sciences but have not taken advanced science and math classes or if your scores in these areas are low, it might affect your acceptance. I think that something in your application needs to indicate that you are prepared or have a passion to pursue what you state you want to major in.
