Are these schools decent? Wonderful? Horrible?

CC regulars know me as an attention-seeker and a hopeless worrier, and I'm about to prove them right.

To put it simply, I need to be reassured that I applied to the right schools. My list of viable options has shrunk from thirteen colleges to a mere nine or ten, and I want to know if I have made massive mistakes. Question: ARE THESE GOOD SCHOOLS (for a 3.3 student)?

The List as it now stands:
Agnes Scott College - accepted
Beloit College - probable match
Earlham College - probable match
Guilford College - probable match
Grinnell College - high reach
Kalamazoo College - probable match
Lawrence University - probable high match
Maryville College (TN not MO) - accepted with merit $
Ursinus College - probable high match
The College of Wooster - probable match

Miss Pick - Parent weighing in - I follow your posts and I think I can reassure you that you have a wonderful list and you have done your homework. I’ve only heard good things about the colleges on your list. You were wise in your selection process and you already have some nice choices, and will soon be adding to your options I am sure. You are doing great - though my kids ended up in the perfect fit for each of them I wish they had dedicated the time and thought you have to putting together a good list - I believe they both ‘lucked’ out!

I agreee with SimpleRules.

My family does not have direct experience with any of these schools, but my kids have many friends or classmates who’ve attended Earlham and Guilford. I’d describe them (my progeny and friends) as lefty liberal, semi-geeky kids who got good grades in high school, but were not super competitive in the 1000 hours of community service, 3 varsity sports mold. The kind of kids who probably are abundant at most of these colleges.

My wife visited Earlham with our son. She (who has high standards) loved the place. He did not think the rural setting was right for him but I bet he would have liked Lawrence (which just wasn’t on our radar at the time).

So is February the high season for buyer’s remorse in college application lists, or what?

I don’t know about the others but Beloit, Grinnell, and Kalamazoo are wonderful schools.

I agree with SimpleRules - You have a great, well thought out list! You will have options come April.

I’m an Ursinus Grad & worked as an alum rep with admissions for a few years. You list it as a High Match. Your geographic diversity will be a big boost at Ursinus. If you haven’t visited it in person, PM me & I can describe the Good & Bad of the campus as well as my experiences as an alum.

It is a great school with cooperative learning. Not cut-throat. Very “Vanilla” in terms of diversity (ethinic, geographic & socio-economic). Very involved professors & tons of research opportunities (unbelivable opportunities given that it is a small LAC). Very easy to change majors, double major and stretch your limits.

I also think you will get into Ursinis and Kalamazoo as well as Lawrence. I really like Lawrence. Grinnell is an awesome school, but I am biased as you know. ;)

I think as SimpleRules stated you have done a wonderful job. You should relax just knowing that you already got into one good school and more will be following along shortly.

Kepp us posted. :)

Thanks, friends! Anyone else want to chime in?

I know folks who work at each of those schools, and they’re all terrific.

When my D was looking her father fell in love with Lawrence and Appleton- she broke my heart and would not consider the school

Ok - Ursinus is out because Dad wouldn’t/couldn’t fill out a CSS profile.

It’s like a game of musical chairs, isn’t it?
