ACT Composite: 28 (I take the ACT again tomorrow, so potentially could go up)
Math 1 subject test: 690
Should I include my math 1 score when applying? Or is it too low? I am more familiar with the ACT than the SAT, so Its hard for me to interpret this score.
The scores are low for BU unless you choose the CGS option.
What’s far more important at BU than test scores are academic rigor, grades and GPA trends. What’s your GPA/course rigor and GPA trend like? Your essay matters, too.
A 28 ACT falls within the 50th percentile range for BU, so they wouldn’t discount you out of hand. They’d look closely at the rest of your application, in particular your academics and your essay to make a decision, re: admission.
I got in with a 28 ACT no problem, but I had the whole EC, academic rigor, personal essay thing too. Don’t stress that much over the test score if you have everything else.
BU is pretty holistic as @sms122397 states, and care more about grades than scores ( check out the common data set to see importance)
Also SHOW INTEREST SHOW INTEREST SHOW INTEREST They want you to know why you want to go there
BU gets a lot of “I’ll give it a shot applicants, its a stretch” and also many just because of the name and location. If you talk to the local recruiter at your school send them an email to thank them and tell them how they made you want to go there more ( cite something they said that helped you)
Attend ALL local events, register on line ( if available) and sign in. Yes , go more than once if that is available - in areas where an hour drive is between locations this may be possible - each will have different people. Talk to professors in the school you may want to apply to and MAKE and impression!!! Tell them you liked a paper they wrote or comment on a course they teach… Get their email address and send them thank you and remind them who you are, Impression is important
GO TO AN OPEN HOUSE ON THE CAMPUS!!! Register and check in! This is difficult to do when you live far away but it is even more impressive when that is the case. Go the session for teh college(s) you may want to attend.
If you visit again on your own, register again at the admissions office ( chat with the students there and ask about the school, they are often a great resource and will note that in your file!!! Yes they do!!
SET UP AN INTERVIEW!! For informational purposes, ask questions tell them about you as well MAKE AN IMPRESSION. Yes it’s not required and if possible see if it can be with a professor or senior administrator ( Dean Assistant Dean) in the school you are interested. Do this on an off day, not during a tour day or visit day…
Consider CGS, great option if you are undecided but be prepared to tell them why they don’t like people who say the admission is easier
