I look at all these posts and i see a ton of kids saying how they get 2340, 2400, 2360....etc. on their SAT's. I mean not to be conceided but i consider myself a pretty good student and i got a 2060 on my SAT. I do plan on taking them over and getting around a 2140 but compared to all these posts i'm reading even that doesnt seem good. In my school not many kids get those types of grades (maybe one a year) and i know for a fact that my school is ranked top 50 public schools in the nation by US News. I was wondering if those scores being reported are actually true becasue it seems to me like everyone on here is a genius and it makes me worried. Also can i get into top schools such as georgetown or duke with about a 2100-2150?

yes they are real
but i do hope i get those scores too =)

yes, of course most of those scores are real.
but don't worry, College Confidential tends to distort reality because almost everyone here is really intent on being the best of the best (hence they're applying to Ivys and on this website).
2100-2150 should be in the range for Georgetown or Duke (you should check on www.collegeboard.com), but really so many other factors matter, from the controllable such as GPA and awards, to the uncontrollable such as demographics, that it shouldn't make or break your app; if you were to worry about anything, make sure you have it all in terms of academics and extracurricular involvement.

the scores are real
I go to Whitney High School (#1 public school in california) (#3 publich school in the nation)
there are 170 students in my graduating class of 2008 and so far i know of at least half who have gotten 2100+ and a quarter 2200+ and 13% 2300+

high SAT scores do not equal genius...

The SAT is a national test so it cant mean that theres any unfair advantages. Im reading right out of the 2007 edition US News Best Colleges rankings: 1360-1540 combined CR and Math. The ones that hover around 1360-1400 probably have a high ranking (meaning they compete at less competitive schools) or have many extracurriculars. And Yes, the majority of everything here is factual, cuz why would you lie on a college forum? (We are here to assess our realistic futures, not brag to strangers)

The stats I just gave were for Duke University - btw :)

"And Yes, the majority of everything here is factual, cuz why would you lie on a college forum? (We are here to assess our realistic futures, not brag to strangers)"

I've seen plenty of posts on here full of lies from people who want to show off online. It's pretty pathetic.

They are thankfully of a slim minority, though.

And, going off on a tangent here, but.. US News does public school rankings?

yep - i ordered the book online. every year they publish "America's Best Colleges" which includes financial and admissions info, along with rankings and everything else. Only thing it doesnt have is student life particular to each university (ie. partyschool, nerdschool...). Princeton Review does the same thing.
