My D (and I) would’ve been devastated if something like @DesignDad D experience had happened. So sorry!
@ScreenName48105 I am trying really hard not to instigate those speculative conversations … positive or negative. Lately I’ve been skewing more towards feeling negative and fully expecting to be disappointed with the merit offers… :-<
oh @choirsandstages I am
having nightmares about waitlists, zero merit and not enough FA.
So, I’m sifting through last years threads to see when certain schools actually notified. I’m going bonkers!
Luckily my D is busy rehearsing Orpheus in the Underworld. Her opening night is 4/1. Ha!
@coloraturakid I have been doing the same thing, looking at past lists to see when programs notify.
I’m hoping we’ll have some decisions by Easter, hopefully good news!
My S knows not to count his chickens before they are hatched and knows an acceptance is not really an acceptance if it ends up being unaffordable. That being said if he doesn’t get into the school where the professor e-mailed him and said he had a spot after his audition that will sting. He auditioned on the last audition day so there should be no reason for the teacher not to know who else he will be accepting at that point. As for the mother who burst into the audition room during another audition! that is really just too much! My S said at his last audition, for MM, the requirements were to have prepared a full concerto, full Bach suite, 2 etudes and a full sonata- he said they ended up asking him to play, a small portion of 1 movement of the concerto, same with sonata and Bach suite and no etude, he thought it felt like a let down! Good luck everyone, crossing my fingers and praying for everyone to have great results!
My D narrowed it down to 5 schools to apply to. All 5 very different programs, but all music and all in Southern California. She figured wherever she got in would help her to decide which passion to pursue. She got into 2 of her top 3 …The two most extreme opposites - Classical VP at Chapman and Ethnomusicology at UCLA. Can’t really post anything until she decides which path to take. Totally in limbo!
Thank you @cellomom2
It’s so great to know that I’m not the only
angst filled music performance parent that’s searching threads. ha!
I’m sure I’ve got you all beat as far as obsessive searching goes…
Great news to share, D got a full tuition talent award from Memphis! So definitely having a blast now!
Its Dad’s 1st choice but not hers, she’s hoping to use it as leverage to counter Loyola and U Arts where she got smaller partial awards. She has however cancelled an audition for UMass Lowell her safety school.
She has one audition left at CU Denver we’re going to play out because the plane tickets have already been booked.
Wow that’s like a dream come true @PopPrincessPop ! Congrats to your daughter!
Not so fast! Do you have a spreadsheet? Well?? LOL I may have to break the pact because my son has been a total grouch and maybe talking about it a little will help. Or not. I don’t know anymore. One of his schools has announced that they’re going to send out decisions tomorrow. In a letter. But they’re not going to post it on the online portal until Saturday. That’s just evil.
@PopPrincessPop , huge congratulations to your daughter!!
Lol @ScreenName48105 - if you’re talking about USC, they’ve supposedly already sent them out today and the portal will be updated on Friday!! (According to rumors)
@PopPrincessPop that is beyond wonderful! brava to your D! so brilliant to
hear. wow!
@PopPrincessPop congrats to your daughter!
“What I am wondering is WHY the Mom was allowed anywhere near the audition? CRAZY!” She probably was waiting outside the room I would guess, and when her D finished, came out (and probably was upset), she ran into the room. I am surprised they let parents on the floor like that, or maybe she snuck onto the floor. My S’s teacher said in all his years of teaching he never saw anything like that…actually, given some of the music mothers I have seen over the years, some of whom were scary as hell, I am surprised it didn’t happen more often.
@musicprnt, that’s insane, isn’t it?? WOW! my D has auditioned at 10 schools this season and the large majority keep parents corralled, far from the audition rooms, which I think is highly preferable. again, WOW!
One of the tricks to this is looking for the silver lining to it all, as hard as it can be. For example, for this summer my son got waitlisted to a program he would have loved to attend, but the reality of that program is that few if any students as undergrad get into it, it is more grad student and young professional, more like a Marlborough,so getting even waitlisted was kind of an honor. On the other hand, he got a fellowship to another program that he inititally kind of dismissed, but then when we pointed out that the past summer, all the fellows were either people who had graduated that year and were headed to grad school, or were grad students, so making it after his junior year was not a small thing:). Sometimes you kind of have to get them look at the brighter side of life:)
WOW. That was a crazy 20 hours or so. S didn’t get into Juilliard but got in everywhere else he applied - Michigan, Berklee, Oberlin, New School, USC Thornton. I won’t lie, Juilliard really stung, but I think he gave it his best and made it to the call-backs. I’m proud that he went for it. So, now, I guess we sort out the money!
Congratulations to everyone on their acceptances!!
Congratulations @ScreenName48105 on having so many great choices!
@ScreenName48105 that’s fantastic! bravo to your S! my D lost her voice completely during her j’yard audition. It was devastating. She just had to bow out.
So we have had a few weeks to get past that. Some amazing acceptances always help the sting!
Again, hurrah!
Congrats @ScreenName48105 ! As of a few moments ago, we are “done” with the waiting game, too! Now to sit down with 8 financial aid packets and have some serious conversations! Good thing it’s Spring Break!
Good luck to all those still waiting!
Congrats, @ScreenName48105 and @dbandmom ! The waiting is finally done for us, too. Son got in everywhere he applied except UCLA Ethnomusicology - Jazz performance (piano). Now deciding between Thornton, Frost and UNT. So exciting!!!
