It's only early August. Are seniors suppose to start filling out the common app and doing their essays already?!

Do you guys have your entire list of colleges set in stone?

Psh... most seniors I know, including me, did their apps in December usually pressing send on New Years Eve. But then again I wouldn't recommend that, if you want to spend a lot of time on your essays try writing them in November that seems reasonable.

I've had my essays done since May, but that's just my school.
And I have the common app filled out about halfway.

But it's really not necessary and you can do what js416256 said.

nah i submitted my Columbia app 4 hours after it was due. =P

Well, almost all of my older friends have given me advice pertaining to college app deadlines, and they all say to get them done early. I'm in marching band in the fall, so that knocks out ANY time to do apps in September and October; thus, I'm doing them now. It'll be nice to not have to rush and worry once November begins.

It's really your choice, but you won't regret starting early, that's for sure.

Another thing I want to add is, while you might not start the essays until late in the application process, thinking about potential topics is something you might want to think about much earlier. Personally, I had the topic of my essay figured out in November but I didn't write it until Christmas break.

So I should start filling the common app now and think about essay choices.

Do I make copies of common app in nov. and mail them out to all my colleges?

Whenever you're done. I'd advise giving your essays to a teacher to look through before mailing them in, but don't wait to mail them all in at once if you're done with a few.

If you're applying to rolling admission schools, the sooner you start your app, the better. If you're applying to a ridiculous number of schools (like 8 or 10), you might want to start now to prevent yourself from going crazy in December. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy your summer.

I have a having workload for senior year, so I'm getting them out of the way before it gets too late.

I did all my common app stuff excluding the essay which is still in the second draft. Unfortunately, UC online apps aren't out yet, but I got all the paperwork done. I probably wont have time when school starts with 5 APs, a job, and cross country practice

If you have the time now, why not do it now instead of later? It can't hurt, and it'll be one less thing off your plate come December.

I would definitely advise getting it done now.
I have finished all of my essays/apps for 9 schools and now am just holding onto them, looking at them every weekend, checking for revisions, and holding them to send until Oct or november.

You simply cannot put your best foot forward during the busy school year; I certainly advise getting it started.
