??????????????????????

No.
…

okay that’s what i thought. i’m new to biking and was crossing at the intersection of hearst and oxford yesterday when some other biker tried to cross against traffic towards me. he forced me to move to the left into the cars and i almost got mowed down. -_-

and you can’t ride on sidewalks either right?

“ride with, walk against.”

Idunno… There are a lot of one way streets that make things complicated. Like you would have to make a huge detour. I personally think that its alright. Just don’t get hit. I personally don’t think that its a problem to bike on the sidewalks either, unless its really crowded. Just don’t hit anyone. Sometimes people might have to move over a little but its not that much of a problem.

^like the morons who ride their bikes on Telegraph’s sidewalks. It’s so tempting to push 'em off.

bikers on their bikes are considered cars by state law. Would you drive against traffic? Would you drive on the sidewalk?

well no, but that’s cuz you can’t physically drive in a car against traffic or on the sidewalk. you can with a bike though. this is why i am asking the question.

treat biking the same as driving

you can be cited for anything from biking on the sidewalk to biking under the influence, yes it’s a real thing

Yeah, unless signs explicity say otherwise, bikes are the same as cars. This even means that you need lights after sun down. I’ve been pulled over and given a warning for this, as well as running a red light, my first time.

There are annoying people who don’t follow the rules, but they’re still subject to them like you are. It’s safer to follow the rules too.

Eg. these days, I can’t imagine biking down a sidewalk – with slow moving pedestrians, sometimes trees and cracks, I can’t imagine how long it’d take before I hit something. Going the wrong way: 20mph on bike + 25mph car = 45mph crash – not pretty.
