I am interested in knowing some of you who are pursuing an international relations major in Harvard University. I am currently still in high school though I am very interested in international affairs, politics, and history. I personally love learning how different cultures effect each other, comparative history patterns, etc.

Anyways, why are you an international relations major? What made you interested in IR? Also, what type of activities did you pursue in high school that are related to IR? How is your education like in harvard for IR? What careers do you plan on pursuing?

If some of you can answer these questions I would greatly appreciate it! I'd love to get to know some of you, and get an idea of the type of students, and also the type of atmosphere of international relations in Harvard.

Harvard doesn't have an IR major. We have a Government major (or concentration, rather.. lol). Gov is the 2nd most popular? i think? concentration here so there are lots of kinds of people in the department. I don't think there's a "type" of student. There always seems to be some president or prime minster at Harvard giving a speech or talk or participating in a panel debate -- it's very exciting. The institute of politics (IOP) is huge and does a lot of really great work. Trust me, if you enter Harvard and declare a concentration in Gov, you will not be unhappy.

m_c is correct. You can concentrate in Government. Government has different "tracks" within the department that you can pursue, one of which is International Relations. "Tracks" mean that your concentration requirements are different, but your diploma will only say Government on it.

Good points guys. No wonder there weren't many replies until now... lol. Anyways, atleast there is an international relations track. But either way, it still serves the purpose. How is government concentrations in Harvard? What makes the Government program different from other schools? What type of activities are there? What is the competition among the students?

I don't know, sorry. I'm a freshman and we don't declare our concentrations until after first semester sophomore year so I still have over a year to go!
