Are You Familiar With Va Colleges/universities?

Bump Bump Bump

Only 3 students were admitted from my school to UVA and they were all females in the top 5% of the class. I'm only in the top 25%.

Hmmm....regardless, I still believe that you have a great chance at UVA. By the way, have you researched Longwood University or Lynchburg College? They might be possibilities for you as well.

I don't anyone in-state who got into UVA (unless they were a URM) who were not in the top 5-10% of their class.

The OP's ECs seem to lack passion and consistency.

JMU and Mary Washington seem to be matches.

bump bump bump

You're not in at UVA. UVA is more difficult to get into, even in-state, than W&M. I barely know anybody accepted here without SAT scores above a 2000. And 90% of each incoming class was in the top 10% of their HS. AND our average HS GPA is over a 3.9. Even with all A's as a senior, you're reaching for UVA, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.

I don't understand why everyone is saying a 3.6 is low...maybe my school is warped or something, but 3.6 - A minus, no??

This seems like W&M or UVA material to me...

agreed (ten char)

3.6 weighted isn't low by any means -- but it is below average for both W&M and UVA. Both schools report an average GPA of 4.0. Also, the OP said class rank was somewhere in the Top 25% -- but both UVA and W&M report that over 80% of entering Freshmen students are in the Top 10%. The SAT subscores are also low for these schools. At W&M the SAT range is Verbal: 630 – 730 and Math: 620 – 710. UVA reports Verbal: 610 – 710 and Math: 620 – 720.

So. The OP is below the average GPA, below the 20% for class rank, and below the 25% for both Math and Vebal SAT scores. In-state status and particularly SOVA is helpful, but I think both schools are very much reaches. That doesn't mean you shouldn't apply, but I would strongly suggest you look for some good safeties/matches, many of which have already been suggested (JMU, UMW, VT, Roanoke, Lynchburg, Randolph-Macon come to mind). Washington and Lee and Richmond are probably both reaches as well. Best of luck.
