S got in several EAs with merit money. We visited them… info, tour, open house, sit in classes, talk to profs and students and other parents, eat there, tour the city and make calls to AOs…but all schools have pro and con, no idea where he will go. ED wave is coming soon… God bless us!

I’m feeling very relieved that we’re done (at least with D1). She applied to 5 schools - 3 safeties and 2 matches. She had no desire to apply elsewhere. She was accepted to all before Christmas and made her final decision to attend one of the safeties late last week. I’ve now moved on to making travel arrangements for orientation, fall break, etc. and figuring out important things like how to get her school’s fight song onto my phone as her ring tone. I’m watching folks on CC as well as D’s friends and their parents go through the waiting process, and it looks brutal. The kids are on edge, the parents are walking on eggshells - I don’t know how everyone is getting through it. I don’t remember it being anything like this when I applied to colleges way back when. It can be such a stressful process. Best of luck to all who are waiting!

Someone pass the vallium…it’s going to be a l-o-o-o-n-g month.

If one more parent asks me where my son is going, I’m going to need more than Valium. I’m so relieved that other parents are going through the same things. My wife and I get really anxious during dinner, when our son says that so and so is definitely going to _____college. It heightens his anxiety then it becomes ours…April first or April fool’s, Here is our mantra until April 1, “It’s the journey not the destination, It’s the journey not the destinaton, It’s the journey not the destination!” 24 days to go, btw, hahaha…

Yes, I meant EA and not ED

Even “better” than all the “where is your son going?” questions is “So your son is going to Non-Binding-EA-Admit-School–great!” With me answering, no, no, it was early but not binding, he still has four more to hear from!

Cornell RD kids found out yesterday.

From MDMOM: “Someone on here posted that her bright son was telling people that he wanted to be a Phoenix, which I found amusing. Someone asked me what my son wants to do, so I answered that he wants to be a Phoenix. After the shocked look, the question was: What do you think about that? I love gullible people. Try that line; it gets great reactions.”

I like the Phoenix comment, but my D is considering a school where the mascot IS a Phoenix: Elon. Also, Swarthmore has a Phoenix mascot (officially, though most still refer to the Garnet).

Re Cornell, I believe it’s just the ILR applicants that got admissions decisions yesterday. Arts and Science applicants will have to wait until Ivy Day, March 29.

Re Phoenix mascots, also U of Chicago.

Didn’t even think about the mascot connection.

The Phoenix thing is funny although it took me a minute to get the joke! I guess my mind is so wrapped up with my son’s current college list that I too immediately thought of Elon too!

And to chime in - I am also SO sick of the wait!! I believe S2 hears from his last 2 schools at the end of this month – nothing like buying airline tickets to re-visit at the last minute!! Luckily, we can schedule some visits now although he is having a hard time deciding which schools he wants to attend for the “admitted students” programs - Arrrg!

I really wish they gave these kids a bit more time…

Nobody is getting my jokes this week.:(

After the summer before junior year was spent visiting west coast schools and the summer before senior year visiting east coast schools AS WELL AS three official visits as separate weekend trips, I hear, "Mom, I am going to need to see __, and _________ again and visit ___________ which she added after all the visiting was done (if accepted). I seriously thought the travel was done :(

Nrdsb4 - Cornell’s ILR and Hotel Mgmt. got their decisions.

^^^^^Yes, that makes sense. D’s bf is a Hotel Management major.

For the parent who said that Cornell got their decision already, I logged in to let you know that you gave me a heart attack.

Anyways, my 2 least favorite questions are “Where are you going to college?”, and “Where do you want to go the most/What’s your favorite?”

Fleeeeffff! (Noise of frustration)

^^^^^Awwww, I am SO SORRY!!! D told me that BF had heard, and I saw other references to it, so did not realize that not all Cornell hopefuls had heard.

Nice, slow, cleansing breaths! :D

Third times the charm for me. Though S3 has 3 decisions outstanding, having gotten into a great program via rolling admissions in Jan was a HUGE load off. Even if he gets 3 rejections, which would sting, he has a great acceptance to a specific program he really thinks is outstanding. YAY rolling admissions!

I feel a little uncomfortable with people asking where my D applied. I just say it’s a bunch of different places, and I will let you know where she is going in April.

Anyone as anxious OR MORE for FA packages??? got seriously disappointed today by one of D’s EA reach schools she was accepted at The tug or PULL of being accepted by a reach was really strong, now it just seems like a big tease! We’ve got some good reliable schools with nice FA packages as options, but its hard to make those appear like not “settling” after being accepted to the reach… We were all careful about over-committing to the reach when discussing/answering the hated question that’s been mentioned (where is D headed??) But still, everyone knows she was accepted at ____________ its embarrassing to not be able to deliver only because of $$

Now we’re waiting for the RD decisions (AND AID PACKAGES, if applicable) from the final 2 reaches…
