I just got a letter in the mail telling me about the official date/location/other details and it just made me think.
The whole point of these things is to celebrate with others but I don't really have anyone to celebrate with; however, when I was filling out the graduation paperwork with my counselor she really wanted me to put down that I would be participating in the ceremony.

Just thought it would be interesting to hear what others are going to do.

@AnthroFlo I have no idea but I know for Glendale CC, you need:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
7. Two semester units of physical education activity
classes and/or dance activity classes must be
completed unless exempted by established policy.
Consult the catalog for a list of the exemptions.

quoted from their “GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS” page for AS

Edit: I would need to stay an extra year to fulfill the school’s requirements so no ty

I think you can have 2 semester units of P E by taking summer class. My school does have this requirement too. I need to take 2 P E units in order to get an AA degree.

If I transfer, does it even count as graduating? At my CC, as far as I know, the graduation ceremony is for people getting their AA, AS, or other degrees. I think they have some other small thing for transfers but it’s definitely not as big as the graduation ceremony.

@RamonaFalls, transferring doesn’t count as graduating unless you have the requirements done. Yes you’re right in regards to the grad ceremony only being for ppl getting their AA degrees

I’m just transferring so no graduating. I told myself even if I were graduating, I would not want to go.

Definitely not. Missing the PE requirement and a speech class. Even if I did get an AA I would not participate in the ceremony, it would feel sort of weird lol.

I am going to and I’m pretty surprised so many people aren’t. It’s a shame that so many people think CC is like a prison and are more concerned with “getting out” and transferring than enjoying their education. I have fond memories from the last two years even if this was just a stepping stone.

Does anybody know if it’s required to participate in the ceremony in order to receive your AA degree? I did fill out forms but I don’t want to go, but I’m afraid that I wouldn’t get the degree if I don’t. Or does it vary from CC to CC?
