Are you guys gonna live in a dorm or off campus????

@cosmicbubble I cant find a link to how much housing is per quarter at davis? wth

@uchappytrain

http://housing.ucdavis.edu/__pdf/Shared/2011%20SSA%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf

how is that calculated.?

^^ damn that’s expensive.

I went out to lunch today with my mom and she told me my sister got a housing grant when she went to ucr. are housing grants received thru fafsa or do you have to apply separately for them? anyone know anything about this? I never heard of a housing grant before.

Yes the housing grant is basically the cal grant plus the blue and gold grant. You just gotta apply to cal grant and fafsa as long as you earn less than 80,000 then UC will grant you the money for all expenses.

Wow…that’s really expensive. I’m so glad for community college. My family isn’t eligible for financial aid. I can’t imagine paying for a UC and the dorms for all four years…

@cosmicbubble but someone said earlier ^^^that the blue & gold goes toward admission only and not housing ??

^ yes but whatever blue and gold cant pay, cal grant pays the rest.

awwsome. cuz I’m debating whether I should take out a loan and buy a brand new car(:<

Can you afford a brand new car right now? Do you really need one? If the answer to both questions is yes, then you should get one.

Personally, idk if I could stomach taking out an auto loan as a student (while not working full time), just in case something terrible happens/I need to take out student loans/etc…

Then again, I have a newish car (thinking about selling it, though - full coverage insurance = expensive) - what I want is to save up for a house (lol).

oh man i would never take out a student loan for a car… you shouldn’t be so greedy, especially like asphyxiac said, do you really need a brand new car? If i have money leftover then I will buy a so so car. And we all want a house  Oh and i just saw on the news that the majority of uc students are struggling to pay back loans.

lol no, dont take out loan for a car. IMO, not really worth it. Im planning to get a brand new car once i graduated.

Get a pre-owned car if you can as a student.

yes I need a car really bad. my parents bought me a “new” (not new, just new as in I havn’t had it long) car recently but idk if it will last very long. if I go to santa cruz it definitely will not. plus santa cruz is very hilly and my car is NOT good on gas. I plan on looking for a job once I transfer to wherever so I will have money to eat and such. And plus, most student loans don’t have to start being paid back till after you graduate. So i’ll try to save up and be prepared to make those payments.

^^ yeah i’m also considering a used car. i’m just freaked out with all the recent scams that car dealers have been doing. messing with the mileage and stuff.

On campus. It’s more fun that way, I think.

everyone i’ve spoken to on the uc transfer chats, say that cars are not really brought in by students, most use bikes if you live on campus… but like what if i wanna go out to the mall or clubbing or go home!??

Imo, just buying a brand new car that’s not too expensive is better for the long run. Almost all used cars have a problem just waiting to happen because every previous owner’s screwed up their car one way or another. If you do buy used though, choose a reliable car like a civic or Camry/corolla and avoid the stress. Those things literally drive till their wheels fall off lol.

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using CC

^^ yeah i’ll look into used civics and camrys theyre good cars.

off campus

most of my best friends go to the two schools I’m hoping to attend so I’ll be sharing an apartment with them  hehe excited~~

I plan on living off campus. I lived in the barracks while while in the service so I don’t really feel like I’m missing out on such an experience. I’ll be 25 going on 26 when I transfer. So now I’m just trying to go to school not really into the party/college lifestyle that some are looking for.
